Enterprise Car Club

Enterprise Car Club is a nationwide, back-to-bay car club offering cars and vans you unlock with the app, charged by time plus per-mile.

Fuel and roadside assistance are included, while insurance has a standard excess with paid options to reduce it. Coverage spans 1,300+ vehicles across 180+ UK towns and cities, with particularly strong availability outside London as well as in the capital.

Key differences vs Zipcar include no one-way “Flex” trips and a broader national spread, vs Co Wheels, Enterprise is a commercial operator with dense networks in many large cities. Best for drivers who want predictable, back-to-bay hires near home or work, with simple pricing and strong UK coverage.

  • Pros: broad UK coverage; fuel/charging included; transparent per-mile model; 24/7 access and support; option to reduce excess; EV availability.
  • Cons: no one-way trips; must return to same bay; under-22 restrictions and higher mileage rate; late/cleaning/low-fuel fees can add up; London Congestion Charge handling depends on vehicle’s home location.

What It Is & How It Works

Enterprise Car Club Cars

Enterprise Car Club provides 24/7 self-service access to cars and vans parked in dedicated bays across UK streets, car parks, train stations, and at some Enterprise branches.

Reserve in the app or online, walk to the bay, unlock with the app, drive using the in-car key, and return the vehicle to the same bay to end the trip in the app.

Fuel/charging and roadside assistance are included, you just pay time plus mileage.

Where It’s Available (UK)

Enterprise operates nationally with more than 1,300 vehicles across 180+ towns, cities and communities. Live location pages confirm availability in London, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, York and many more.

Vehicles are placed in on-street bays, car parks, near stations and sometimes at Enterprise branches. Check the map for nearby bays. There is no one-way scheme (return to the same bay).

Congestion Charge/ULEZ note for London: cars based inside the Congestion Zone include the charge in the price, but vehicles outside the zone may require you to pay Congestion Charge when you enter.

The fleet is ULEZ-compliant, so ULEZ charges are not typically payable by members. Always check your vehicle’s home location and follow the guidance on Enterprise’s London page and policies.

Vehicles & Fleet

Enterprise Car Club Fleet

The fleet mixes small city cars, medium hatchbacks and estates, compact SUVs, electric and hybrid models, plus small and large vans. Current examples include Nissan Leaf, Vauxhall Corsa-e/Mokka-e, Kia e-Niro, Peugeot e-208/e-2008, Vauxhall Astra and others, varying by city.

Child seats aren’t provided, members bring and fit their own if needed. Pets aren’t allowed in vehicles, although service animals are accommodated on request.

Pricing & Fees

Obviously subject to change, but currently:

  • Membership: Basic £10/year; Standard £7/month or £60/year; Under 22 £10/month (+£10 application fee).
  • Rental and mileage: rental rates vary by city/vehicle; per-mile charges are typical (cars 25p, vans 30p, EVs 14p; Under-22 65p). Fuel/charge covered via the mileage fee.
  • Other key fees: free cancellation up to five hours; within five hours up to £30. Late-extend and late-return fees apply if you overrun; low fuel/EV not left on-charge fee £30; cleaning/smoking/pet hair fees from £30; lost keys/fuel or charge cards at cost plus admin.

Congestion Charge is included for vehicles whose home bay is inside the zone, but different rules apply if you enter from outside—see policy.

Pricing Examples

Scenario Rough cost Notes
2-hour weekday in London (economy car) ~£17 plus mileage at 25p/mi From ~£8.50/hr; includes 2 hours
1-day London (economy) From ~£65 plus mileage at 25p/mi Daily rate
EV trip (any city) Base hourly/daily rate plus ~14p/mi Must return on charge

Insurance & Excess

Damage/Liability protection is included. Standard excess is £1,000 for cars (£1,250 for vans).

Members aged 22+ can reduce the excess to £250 by paying £15/month or £150/year. Alternatively, a per-reservation option (£2/hr up to £16/day) can reduce the excess for that trip.

Roadside assistance is included. Exclusions and misuse scenarios can void protection—read the policies.

Eligibility & Sign-Up

You must be 19+ with a valid driving licence (international licences accepted while valid in the UK). Under-22 drivers have restrictions (including no driving 22:00–05:00) and higher mileage rate.

Sign-up involves ID and licence verification (photo of you holding your licence if using online verification). A valid credit or debit card in your name is required.

Approvals proceed after verification. Membership support has defined hours and emergency support is 24/7.

Unique Selling Points vs Rivals

Enterprise Car Club Countrywide

Enterprise’s differentiators are its national footprint beyond London, dense back-to-bay network, straightforward time-plus-mileage pricing with fuel included, option to reduce excess, and strong 24/7 phone support.

Members also get discounts at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Zipcar’s key differentiator is Flex one-way in London, which Enterprise does not offer. Co Wheels is a community-interest operator with breadth in smaller towns, and also back-to-bay and no one-way.

Who It’s Best For

Enterprise Car Club suits UK drivers who want reliable access to cars or vans near home or work, especially outside London or where round-trip journeys are the norm.

If you want a simple, fuel-included price that scales with distance, and predictable back-to-bay parking, it’s a strong fit.

Best for: value-minded drivers across the UK who need occasional round-trips with predictable pickup/return and fuel included.

Common Mistakes

Return-to-bay only, no one-way drops.

Under-22 drivers face overnight driving restrictions and higher mileage charges.

You must refuel to at least a quarter tank (or plug EVs in) or face fees.

Late returns can incur incremental fees and costs if another member is inconvenienced.

London Congestion Charge treatment depends on the vehicle’s home bay, but ULEZ is typically a non-issue due to fleet compliance.
