Not only do these cars help to eliminate the fossil fuel dilemma, but they are also extremely beneficial to the environment, and to their owner’s pocketbooks. The term electric car is used to describe a vehicle that has the ability to be propelled by electricity, instead of traditional petrol. They are charged via charger, as opposed to having to refuel with petrol!
One misunderstanding that people have when it comes to electric cars is that they are the exact same thing as hybrids. This is not true. A hybrid vehicle is a type of vehicle that has an electric motor along with a combustion engine. Hybrid vehicles are not considered to be an electric vehicle, despite what some people tend to believe.
Electric cars are not a new invention. The first electric car was manufactured in 1888. The vehicle was designed by a German manufacturer. During the 19th and 20th centuries electric cars were avidly used. However, when the fuel prices started to decrease and become more affordable in the later seventies, people did not see the need to have to operate an electric vehicle. Not only are the vehicles more expensive than traditional petrol powered vehicles, but the charging infrastructures for them, are basically nonexistent. Drivers that want to take their electric vehicles out for an elongated frame of time are scared of running out of energy, and not having the ability to recharge the vehicle.
Electric car sales are gradually increasing all around the world. The electric car market is led by Japan, which averages about twenty eight percent of electric car sales, the US is closely behind it, averaging twenty six percent in market shares, followed closely by China with sixteen percent of car buyers opting to purchase an electric propelled vehicle. Some of the most popular electric powered vehicles are the Nissan Leaf, Honda Fit EV, and Ford Focus Electric, just to name a few.
There is an impressive list of electric vehicles, that are already for sale on the open market, and more are set to join the growing list. As the production of electric vehicles increases, consumers are hoping that the costs for these vehicles will begin to decrease. With increased demand, prices typically start to drop in order to adhere to the wants and needs of consumers. Government grants are being offered in an attempt to encourage motorists to purchase low-emission vehicles.
These grants are intended to help off-set the higher costs of the vehicles. Hopefully, these grants will provide enough initiative for motorists to consider investing in one of these environmentally friendly vehicles. So, perhaps soon the petrol powered car will be obsolete and we can expect to charge, rather than fuel.
