Lord Adonis Crowns 100,000th Car Club Member
Transport Secretary, Andrew Adonis, has announced the 100,000th car club member, showing the rapid growth of the UK's car club industry.
At a special event organised by the national transport charity, Carplus, Andrew Adonis welcomed the industry's newest member - Wendy Benstead, a freelance dressmaker - at a car club bay in the London Borough of Lambeth. The event illustrates the industry's success and highlights the important role played by local authorities in supporting the development of this low-cost, low-impact transport option
Transport Secretary, Andrew Adonis, said: "Car clubs have shown that they can be a catalyst for changing travel behaviour by providing individuals with a viable, cost-effective alternative to car ownership. This tackles congestion and reduces carbon emissions while still providing easy access to a car when needed.
"The growth in the numbers of car club members in recent months has been staggering and I am delighted to help mark this exciting milestone while looking forward to the further growth and expansion of car clubs around the country."
